Typical Home Repair Costs

Below are several web links for information on:

  • typical home repair costs,
  • and, examples of some remodeling projects you may want to budget for in the future of your new home.

Home inspectors do not normally provide cost estimates in their home inspection reports. However, on the Pillar-To-Post web site, there is a general guide of "ball park" estimates for common items you may want to consider with regard to your new home. The estimates of costs on this site are for a typical repair/renovation - we stress these are only "estimates".

Also, the scope and size of a home repair or renovation project can dramatically affect your actual costs. Quality and price of materials used can also vary widely.

This Home Material Cost Calculators link has a number of general cost calculators for various projects.  Make sure to review any assumptions these calculators make so you will get "reasonable" ball park estimates

Typical Remodeling Projects

Comfort, convenience, and aesthetic satisfaction are some of the main reasons people remodel their homes.  But just as important for many is the increase in the value of their property. How much value a project returns depends on where your house is, what shape it's in, and the quality of the work.

To help home buyers with their remodeling decisions (or, to evaluate the valued added to a house you may be considering buying), Realtor® Magazine has teamed with Remodeling Magazine to publish its annual "Cost vs. Value Report (Remodeling Magazine)".

This report compares the estimated cost of popular home renovation projects with the expected value they'll add at re-sale time.

Be sure to read the design tips that accompany each project description.
