Hoboken, New Jersey
Hoboken is filled with quaint specialty shops, bars & restaurants, a prominent professional community, highly regarded Stevens Institute, and home for some of the metro area's most prominent artists, musicians and entertainers.
Many of Hoboken's buildings were erected in the 19th Century to standards set by the Hoboken Land & Improvement Company which was created in 1838 to manage the city's development and created Hoboken's orderly street pattern, and brought a consistency, and coherence to its architecture and real estate. The City of Hoboken itself was incorporated in 1855 in Hudson County.
Today, Hoboken is a colorful mix of cultures and home to a large and growing population identified not just by the diverse ethnic makeup, but by their education, careers, families, and life choices.
Hoboken has seen its re-birth as one of the preferred places to live and buy real estate in New Jersey just minutes by PATH or Ferry from Manhattan along the Hudson River Gold Coast. Hoboken's real estate consists of blocks of restored brownstones and a large number of recently built luxury townhouses, and condominium (condo) buildings.
Hoboken is well known for its vibrant Washington Street. Lined with bistros, neighborhood pubs, old world cafes and unique boutiques, the lively street is a favorite destination. Residents also enjoy the beautiful views from Sinatra Park alongside the Hudson River facing Manhattan. Hoboken is famous for its festivals and cultural celebrations.
Hoboken's lifestyle, amenities, stores and bars/restaurants are strongly influenced by the students and young professionals who rent and buy there. The average resident's age in Hoboken tends to range in the middle to upper 30s.
Because of the congestion, mile-square Hoboken, by necessity, is a walking town. Many properties do not have included parking. On-street parking and public garage parking is very limited.
